About Us<\/h2>\n

The young and dynamically developing clinical discipline of emergency medicine is raising new expectations for owners and changing the approach of veterinarians to actions in situations of immediate life-threatening situations for animals, especially companion animals.<\/p>\n

To meet the expectations of veterinarians and the needs of animal caregivers, the Polish Society of Veterinary Emergency Medicine was established through the efforts of practicing veterinarians.<\/p>\n

We hope that the wide range of veterinary services offered thanks to the competence and work of many veterinarians, supplemented by professional, organized emergency procedures, will enable us to provide assistance in particularly difficult situations.<\/p>\n

Specialist in Small Animal Surgery<\/p>

After graduating from the University of Cambridge Veterinary School, John worked for six years in small animal practice before returning to Cambridge as university assistant surgeon for four years. He then moved to the University of Liverpool as lecturer in small animal surgery and held the position of head of the division of small animal studies. John became a Fellow of the RCVS in 1993 and Diplomate of the ECVS in 1997.<\/p>

From 1999, John worked in private practice in Cheshire. The following year he was awarded the BSAVA Simon Award for contributions to small animal surgery.<\/p>

John is former chair of BSAVA\u2019s Congress Committee and chief examiner for the RCVS Diploma in Surgery.<\/p>

In 2012 he was appointed honorary professor at the University of Liverpool. He has a keen interest in all aspects of soft tissue surgery, particularly emergency surgery, damage control surgery, portosystemic shunts and minimally invasive surgery.<\/p>

John is also active on the CPD lecture circuit, regularly speaking in the UK, Europe and the USA. John has authored chapters and edited manuals forBSAVA and most recently contributed and co-edited the second edition of the BSAVA Manual of Canine and Feline Abdominal Surgery.<\/p><\/div><\/details>\n\n<\/div>\n<\/article>\n\n

Dr Andrew Linklater, DVM, DACVECC<\/h3>\n

Dr Andrew Linklater is a board-certified veterinary specialist in Emergency and Critical Care (ACVECC), with over 20 years of clinical and leadership experience.<\/p>

He obtained his DVM from the Western College of Veterinary Medicine (Saskatoon, Canada), followed by a rotating internship in Los Angeles and a residency in Emergency and Critical Care at the Animal Emergency Center in Milwaukee. He became a Diplomate of ACVECC in 2009.<\/p>

Andrew has held multiple senior leadership roles, including Medical Director and Head of Emergency Services at Lakeshore Veterinary Specialists (Wisconsin, USA). He has also directed a certified Veterinary Trauma Center and an Internship and Residency Program, mentoring over 100 clinicians.<\/p>

An accomplished academic, he has authored more than 50 peer-reviewed publications and textbook chapters and served as senior editor of two veterinary emergency textbooks. He is a highly sought-after international speaker, known for his structured, case-based teaching and practical approach to ECC.<\/p><\/div><\/details>\n\n<\/div>\n<\/article>\n

Dr Seralp Uzun, DVM, PhD<\/h3>\n

Senior Lecturer in Propaedeutics and Surgery at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine in Bucharest, Romania<\/p>

Dr. Seralp Uzun graduated from the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at Istanbul University in 1998 and earned his PhD in 2019 with a pioneering thesis on \u201cThe Development of Veterinary Biotechnologies in Bone Healing Using Bioresorbable Implants.\u201d<\/p>

Driven by his passion for trauma and emergency medicine, Dr. Uzun founded the Turkish Veterinary Emergency Association in 2016 and went on to organize his country\u2019s first-ever Veterinary Emergency Congress. He is also the author of T\u00fcrkiye\u2019s first veterinary emergency reference book, \u201cVeterinary Emergency and Critical Care Procedures\u201d (2019), which remains a cornerstone in the field.<\/p>

He is an internationally recognised speaker, renowned for his engaging and insightful lectures, Dr. Uzun has been invited as a speaker at prestigious veterinary congresses and workshops in T\u00fcrkiye, Romania, Colombia, Egypt, Argentina, Estonia, Latvia, Poland, and the Czech Republic. He has also delivered guest lectures at eight leading veterinary faculties throughout Europe, inspiring future generations of veterinarians.<\/p>

During the Covid-19 lockdown, he made significant contributions to the global veterinary community by organizing 11 free international webinars on trauma, emergency, and critical care, and surgeries featuring 12 world-renowned speakers and reaching over 1,500 veterinary students from 29 countries.<\/p>

In recognition of his leadership and dedication, he was elected to the Public Relations Committee of the European Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care Society (EVECCS) in 2019, and became Chair of the Committee in 2023, spearheading innovative projects with other committees.<\/p>

His main interest in thoracic trauma surgeries, cranio-maxillofacial (CMF) trauma, and reconstructive surgery.<\/p>

Ken has dedicated his career to reimagining veterinary nursing for 26 years. He is the Chief Veterinary Nursing Officer for VEG ER for Pets, and is an executive board member for the RECOVER Initiative.<\/p>

Ken obtained his Veterinary Technician Specialist (VTS) certification in Emergency and Critical Care, a VTS certification in Small Animal Internal Medicine, and has a Master\u2019s degree in Veterinary Sciences.<\/p>

Over the years, Ken has received many awards for his contribution to veterinary nursing. Ken co-edited the Veterinary Technician and Nurse\u2019s Daily Reference Guide for Canine and Feline, and the Manual of Veterinary Transfusion Medicine and Blood Banking. He publishes articles and presents internationally on topics in ECC, transfusion medicine, and the veterinary nursing profession.<\/p>

While passionately working to bring further recognition of the vital role of the veterinary nurses and technicians through work with industry leading organizations, Ken invites everyone to ask \u201cWhy?\u201d to understand the \u201cWhat\u201d and \u201cHow\u201d of our field to continually pursue new limits.<\/p><\/div><\/details>\n\n<\/div>\n<\/article>\n

Chloe qualified as a veterinary nurse in 2012, gained her ECC certificate in 2016, and her VTS (ECC) in 2018. She most recently completed her certificate in anaesthesia and is RECOVER BLS\/ALS instructor certified.<\/p>

Her main focus over the years has been her continual learning and progression as an ECC nurse; as well as focusing on the level of care we give to our patients and clients. Chloe is impassioned about sharing this knowledge through teaching and developing both vets and technicians within her position at her current hospital to provide gold standard care. Within the last year Chloe moved into her new role as the clinical nursing manager of the hospital.<\/p>

Chloe is also on the review board for the RCVS \u2018inFOCUS\u2019 veterinary journal and has provided lectures and workshops internationally. Chloe is highly experienced and passionate about all aspects of emergency and critical care nursing, but her specific interests include critical care patients including renal and septic patients, and cardio-respiratory patients. In her downtime, Chloe is attempting to learn the mandolin and loves spending as much time as possible outside or cooking fancy meals.<\/p><\/div><\/details>\n\n<\/div>\n<\/article>\n

Following graduation, Dan worked in mixed practice for 4 years, where he obtained the RCVS Certificate in Veterinary Anaesthesia, before moving to a busy small animal first opinion, emergency & referral hospital in Manchester, UK. He then returned to academia to pursue a Residency in Emergency & Critical Care at the Royal Veterinary College, achieving Diplomate status in the American College of Emergency & Critical Care in September 2011, followed by the European College in 2015. Since completing his Residency, Dan has led the ICUs at the University of Bristol veterinary school hospital, a large hospital in the North-West of England, and VetsNow\u2019s Glasgow Referral Hospital.<\/p>

Since VetsNow\u2019s acquisition by IVCEvidensia, Dan has become the UK Clinical Lead for ECC, mixing clinical work with a responsibility for all aspects of development of the specialty within the Group, for wider ECC residency training, as well as for integration of ECC teams and services within the IVCEvidensia network throughout Europe.<\/p>

Clinically, Dan is interested in all aspects of acute medical, surgical and critical care with a particular passion for the stabilisation, investigation and treatment of septic patients as well the management of acute cardiac cases. Due to an increasing recognition of the importance of non-technical skills in successful outcomes for both critical patients and colleagues, he has developed a deep interest in the management of such \u2018human factors\u2019 on the clinical floor and is currently pursuing a Level 7 qualification with the International Coaching Federation.<\/p>

Dan has lectured in the UK, Europe and North America on a variety of ECC topics, as well as conducting workshops in practical techniques and increasingly on non-technical (\u2018Human Factors\u2019) skills.<\/p><\/div><\/details>\n\n<\/div>\n<\/article>\n

Dr Laura Cole is a double board-certified specialist in Emergency and Critical Care (ACVECC and ECVECC) and a Lecturer at the Royal Veterinary College (RVC). She works as a Staff Clinician at the Queen Mother Hospital for Animals, where she supervises residents and delivers advanced emergency and critical care.<\/p>

Laura graduated from the University of Cambridge in 2011 and initially worked in general practice before completing an internship and residency in Emergency and Critical Care at the RVC. She achieved Diplomate status with ACVECC in 2019, followed shortly by ECVECC certification, and later completed a Fellowship in Higher Education in 2021.<\/p>

Her clinical and research interests include point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS), acute kidney injury, and veterinary education. She currently serves as Chair of the EVECC Ultrasound Interest Group, contributing to the advancement of ultrasound use in ECC across Europe.<\/p>

Paul graduated from the University of Liverpool in 1995. After a short spell in mixed practice he moved to a surgical role in a small animal hospital in Manchester, where he obtained his RCVS Certificate.<\/p>

Widely involved in delivering CPD, Paul has lectured to veterinary surgeons and veterinary nurses in the UK, Europe and the USA and has authored and contributed to many textbooks.<\/p>

Prior to joining the Vets Now 24\/7 Emergency and Specialty Hospital in Manchester in 2016, Paul worked in the Manchester area treating both orthopaedic and soft tissue referral cases.<\/p>

Dr Anna Szewczyk is a residency-trained clinician in veterinary anaesthesia and analgesia, with a strong focus on the management of high-risk and critically ill patients.<\/p>

She graduated from the University of Life Sciences in Lublin (Poland) in 2018 and began her postgraduate training with an anaesthesia internship at the University of Pisa (Italy). Professor Olga Szalu\u015b-Jordanow is a veterinary clinician and academic specialising in small animal medicine, diagnostic imaging, and clinical sciences.<\/p>

She graduated from the Warsaw University of Life Sciences (SGGW) in 2004, obtained her PhD in 2010, and completed her habilitation in 2019, reflecting her significant academic and research contributions.<\/p>

Dr Aga \u017b\u00f3\u0142towska is a veterinary surgeon with a strong clinical and academic focus on feline medicine, behaviour, and veterinary education.<\/p>

She graduated from the University of Liverpool in 2005 and early in her career gained valuable international experience working in Cyprus with Paphiakos and CCP Animal Welfare, where she developed a particular passion for feline medicine. Over the past decade, she has worked in first opinion and emergency veterinary practice in the UK, building extensive clinical experience.<\/p>

Aga further advanced her expertise through the ISFM Feline Medicine Distance Education Course at the University of Sydney, achieving Membership of the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists (MANZCVS) in Feline Medicine in 2012. In 2014, she completed the Centre of Applied Pet Ethology Diploma (Level 4) and became a Behaviour Advisor and member of the COAPE Association of Pet Behaviourists and Trainers, as well as joining the ISFM Academy of Feline Practitioners.<\/p>

She is currently a Clinical Associate Professor in Veterinary Education, where she is actively involved in teaching and curriculum development. Aga is passionate about veterinary education and regularly contributes to international teaching initiatives, including volunteer projects with International Cat Care.<\/p>

Registered Veterinary Nurse<\/p>

Tawny graduated from Nottingham Trent University as a Registered Veterinary Nurse in 2016, before moving on to complete her BSc Top Up in Veterinary Nursing Science. Following this she completed an MSc degree in Endangered Species Recovery and Conservation, a certificate in anaesthesia, and a certificate in nursing of zoological and exotic species.<\/p>

Tawny has worked in a wide variety of veterinary settings but has spent the most time working in emergency and referral clinics.<\/p>

Tawny\u2019s interests include anaesthesia care and monitoring, and evidence-based nursing. Martyna Godniak is a Registered Veterinary Nurse with extensive clinical experience, particularly in emergency and critical care.<\/p>

She qualified from Edinburgh College in 2014, obtaining her RVN status, and completed her practical training at the Hospital for Small Animals, Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies, University of Edinburgh, where she was subsequently employed as a rotating nurse, gaining broad experience across multiple hospital departments.<\/p>

Martyna further advanced her qualifications at Myerscough College (Preston), obtaining a Diploma of Higher Education in Clinical Veterinary Nursing (DipHE CVN) in 2018, followed by an Advanced Diploma in Veterinary Nursing (AdvDipVN) in 2019. Since March 2024, she has held the position of Head Nurse Emergency and Critical Care at the Hospital for Small Animals.<\/p>

The young and dynamically developing clinical discipline of emergency medicine is raising new expectations for owners and changing the approach of veterinarians to actions in situations of immediate life-threatening situations for animals, especially companion animals.<\/p>

To meet the expectations of veterinarians and the needs of animal caregivers, the Polish Society of Veterinary Emergency Medicine was established through the efforts of practicing veterinarians.<\/p>

We hope that the wide range of veterinary services offered thanks to the competence and work of many veterinarians, supplemented by professional, organized emergency procedures, will enable us to provide assistance in particularly difficult situations.<\/p>

Specialist in Small Animal Surgery<\/p>

After graduating from the University of Cambridge Veterinary School, John worked for six years in small animal practice before returning to Cambridge as university assistant surgeon for four years. He then moved to the University of Liverpool as lecturer in small animal surgery and held the position of head of the division of small animal studies. John became a Fellow of the RCVS in 1993 and Diplomate of the ECVS in 1997.<\/p>

From 1999, John worked in private practice in Cheshire. The following year he was awarded the BSAVA Simon Award for contributions to small animal surgery.<\/p>

John is former chair of BSAVA\u2019s Congress Committee and chief examiner for the RCVS Diploma in Surgery.<\/p>

In 2012 he was appointed honorary professor at the University of Liverpool. He has a keen interest in all aspects of soft tissue surgery, particularly emergency surgery, damage control surgery, portosystemic shunts and minimally invasive surgery.<\/p>

John is also active on the CPD lecture circuit, regularly speaking in the UK, Europe and the USA. Senior Lecturer in Propaedeutics and Surgery at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine in Bucharest, Romania<\/p>

Dr. Seralp Uzun graduated from the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at Istanbul University in 1998 and earned his PhD in 2019 with a pioneering thesis on \u201cThe Development of Veterinary Biotechnologies in Bone Healing Using Bioresorbable Implants.\u201d<\/p>

Driven by his passion for trauma and emergency medicine, Dr. Uzun founded the Turkish Veterinary Emergency Association in 2016 and went on to organize his country\u2019s first-ever Veterinary Emergency Congress. He is also the author of T\u00fcrkiye\u2019s first veterinary emergency reference book, \u201cVeterinary Emergency and Critical Care Procedures\u201d (2019), which remains a cornerstone in the field.<\/p>

He is an internationally recognised speaker, renowned for his engaging and insightful lectures, Dr. Uzun has been invited as a speaker at prestigious veterinary congresses and workshops in T\u00fcrkiye, Romania, Colombia, Egypt, Argentina, Estonia, Latvia, Poland, and the Czech Republic. He has also delivered guest lectures at eight leading veterinary faculties throughout Europe, inspiring future generations of veterinarians.<\/p>

During the Covid-19 lockdown, he made significant contributions to the global veterinary community by organizing 11 free international webinars on trauma, emergency, and critical care, and surgeries featuring 12 world-renowned speakers and reaching over 1,500 veterinary students from 29 countries.<\/p>

In recognition of his leadership and dedication, he was elected to the Public Relations Committee of the European Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care Society (EVECCS) in 2019, and became Chair of the Committee in 2023, spearheading innovative projects with other committees.<\/p>

His main interest in thoracic trauma surgeries, cranio-maxillofacial (CMF) trauma, and reconstructive surgery.<\/p>

Ken has dedicated his career to reimagining veterinary nursing for 26 years. He is the Chief Veterinary Nursing Officer for VEG ER for Pets, and is an executive board member for the RECOVER Initiative.<\/p>

Her main focus over the years has been her continual learning and progression as an ECC nurse; as well as focusing on the level of care we give to our patients and clients. Chloe is impassioned about sharing this knowledge through teaching and developing both vets and technicians within her position at her current hospital to provide gold standard care. Within the last year Chloe moved into her new role as the clinical nursing manager of the hospital.<\/p>

Chloe is also on the review board for the RCVS \u2018inFOCUS\u2019 veterinary journal and has provided lectures and workshops internationally. Following graduation, Dan worked in mixed practice for 4 years, where he obtained the RCVS Certificate in Veterinary Anaesthesia, before moving to a busy small animal first opinion, emergency & referral hospital in Manchester, UK. He then returned to academia to pursue a Residency in Emergency & Critical Care at the Royal Veterinary College, achieving Diplomate status in the American College of Emergency & Critical Care in September 2011, followed by the European College in 2015. Since completing his Residency, Dan has led the ICUs at the University of Bristol veterinary school hospital, a large hospital in the North-West of England, and VetsNow\u2019s Glasgow Referral Hospital.<\/p>

Clinically, Dan is interested in all aspects of acute medical, surgical and critical care with a particular passion for the stabilisation, investigation and treatment of septic patients as well the management of acute cardiac cases. Due to an increasing recognition of the importance of non-technical skills in successful outcomes for both critical patients and colleagues, he has developed a deep interest in the management of such \u2018human factors\u2019 on the clinical floor and is currently pursuing a Level 7 qualification with the International Coaching Federation.<\/p>
