From 1999, John worked in private practice in Cheshire. The following year he was awarded the BSAVA Simon Award for contributions to small animal surgery.

John is former chair of BSAVA’s Congress Committee and chief examiner for the RCVS Diploma in Surgery.

In 2012 he was appointed honorary professor at the University of Liverpool. He has a keen interest in all aspects of soft tissue surgery, particularly emergency surgery, damage control surgery, portosystemic shunts and minimally invasive surgery.

John is also active on the CPD lecture circuit, regularly speaking in the UK, Europe and the USA. John has authored chapters and edited manuals forBSAVA and most recently contributed and co-edited the second edition of the BSAVA Manual of Canine and Feline Abdominal Surgery.

He obtained his DVM from the Western College of Veterinary Medicine (Saskatoon, Canada), followed by a rotating internship in Los Angeles and a residency in Emergency and Critical Care at the Animal Emergency Center in Milwaukee. He became a Diplomate of ACVECC in 2009.

Andrew has held multiple senior leadership roles, including Medical Director and Head of Emergency Services at Lakeshore Veterinary Specialists (Wisconsin, USA). He has also directed a certified Veterinary Trauma Center and an Internship and Residency Program, mentoring over 100 clinicians.

An accomplished academic, he has authored more than 50 peer-reviewed publications and textbook chapters and served as senior editor of two veterinary emergency textbooks. He is a highly sought-after international speaker, known for his structured, case-based teaching and practical approach to ECC.

Driven by his passion for trauma and emergency medicine, Dr. Uzun founded the Turkish Veterinary Emergency Association in 2016 and went on to organize his country’s first-ever Veterinary Emergency Congress. He is also the author of Türkiye’s first veterinary emergency reference book, “Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care Procedures” (2019), which remains a cornerstone in the field.

He is an internationally recognised speaker, renowned for his engaging and insightful lectures, Dr. Uzun has been invited as a speaker at prestigious veterinary congresses and workshops in Türkiye, Romania, Colombia, Egypt, Argentina, Estonia, Latvia, Poland, and the Czech Republic. He has also delivered guest lectures at eight leading veterinary faculties throughout Europe, inspiring future generations of veterinarians.

During the Covid-19 lockdown, he made significant contributions to the global veterinary community by organizing 11 free international webinars on trauma, emergency, and critical care, and surgeries featuring 12 world-renowned speakers and reaching over 1,500 veterinary students from 29 countries.

In recognition of his leadership and dedication, he was elected to the Public Relations Committee of the European Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care Society (EVECCS) in 2019, and became Chair of the Committee in 2023, spearheading innovative projects with other committees.

His main interest in thoracic trauma surgeries, cranio-maxillofacial (CMF) trauma, and reconstructive surgery.

Currently, Dr. Uzun is teaching as a Senior Lecturer in Propaedeutics and Surgery at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Bucharest, Romania.

Ken obtained his Veterinary Technician Specialist (VTS) certification in Emergency and Critical Care, a VTS certification in Small Animal Internal Medicine, and has a Master’s degree in Veterinary Sciences.

Over the years, Ken has received many awards for his contribution to veterinary nursing. Ken co-edited the Veterinary Technician and Nurse’s Daily Reference Guide for Canine and Feline, and the Manual of Veterinary Transfusion Medicine and Blood Banking. He publishes articles and presents internationally on topics in ECC, transfusion medicine, and the veterinary nursing profession.

While passionately working to bring further recognition of the vital role of the veterinary nurses and technicians through work with industry leading organizations, Ken invites everyone to ask “Why?” to understand the “What” and “How” of our field to continually pursue new limits.

Her main focus over the years has been her continual learning and progression as an ECC nurse; as well as focusing on the level of care we give to our patients and clients. Chloe is impassioned about sharing this knowledge through teaching and developing both vets and technicians within her position at her current hospital to provide gold standard care. Within the last year Chloe moved into her new role as the clinical nursing manager of the hospital.

Chloe is also on the review board for the RCVS ‘inFOCUS’ veterinary journal and has provided lectures and workshops internationally. Chloe is highly experienced and passionate about all aspects of emergency and critical care nursing, but her specific interests include critical care patients including renal and septic patients, and cardio-respiratory patients. In her downtime, Chloe is attempting to learn the mandolin and loves spending as much time as possible outside or cooking fancy meals.

Since VetsNow’s acquisition by IVCEvidensia, Dan has become the UK Clinical Lead for ECC, mixing clinical work with a responsibility for all aspects of development of the specialty within the Group, for wider ECC residency training, as well as for integration of ECC teams and services within the IVCEvidensia network throughout Europe.

Clinically, Dan is interested in all aspects of acute medical, surgical and critical care with a particular passion for the stabilisation, investigation and treatment of septic patients as well the management of acute cardiac cases. Due to an increasing recognition of the importance of non-technical skills in successful outcomes for both critical patients and colleagues, he has developed a deep interest in the management of such ‘human factors’ on the clinical floor and is currently pursuing a Level 7 qualification with the International Coaching Federation.

Dan has lectured in the UK, Europe and North America on a variety of ECC topics, as well as conducting workshops in practical techniques and increasingly on non-technical (‘Human Factors’) skills.

Laura graduated from the University of Cambridge in 2011 and initially worked in general practice before completing an internship and residency in Emergency and Critical Care at the RVC. She achieved Diplomate status with ACVECC in 2019, followed shortly by ECVECC certification, and later completed a Fellowship in Higher Education in 2021.

Her clinical and research interests include point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS), acute kidney injury, and veterinary education. She currently serves as Chair of the EVECC Ultrasound Interest Group, contributing to the advancement of ultrasound use in ECC across Europe.

Laura is an experienced international speaker, delivering lectures and practical training on a wide range of ECC topics, with particular expertise in integrating ultrasound into clinical decision-making.

Widely involved in delivering CPD, Paul has lectured to veterinary surgeons and veterinary nurses in the UK, Europe and the USA and has authored and contributed to many textbooks.

Prior to joining the Vets Now 24/7 Emergency and Specialty Hospital in Manchester in 2016, Paul worked in the Manchester area treating both orthopaedic and soft tissue referral cases.

Paul’s clinical interests include traumatology, acute abdominal surgery and cruciate disease.

She graduated from the University of Life Sciences in Lublin (Poland) in 2018 and began her postgraduate training with an anaesthesia internship at the University of Pisa (Italy). After gaining experience in clinical practice in Poland, she pursued further specialist training, completing an anaesthesia internship at Fitzpatrick Referrals Oncology and Soft Tissue (UK).

Anna currently continues her advanced anaesthesia training at Southern Counties Veterinary Specialists (UK), where she is involved in the perioperative management of complex surgical and emergency cases.

Her clinical interests include anaesthesia of critically ill patients, pain management, and advanced perioperative care, with particular emphasis on safe and effective anaesthetic strategies in emergency settings.

Anna brings a practical and clinically focused perspective to teaching, supporting veterinary teams in applying modern anaesthesia and analgesia techniques in real-world ECC scenarios.

She graduated from the Warsaw University of Life Sciences (SGGW) in 2004, obtained her PhD in 2010, and completed her habilitation in 2019, reflecting her significant academic and research contributions.

Her clinical and research interests focus on diagnostic imaging, particularly computed tomography (CT), as well as cardiovascular assessment and clinical pathology.

Olga is the author and co-author of numerous scientific publications in veterinary medicine, widely cited in international peer-reviewed journals.

She is recognised for her structured and clinically relevant teaching approach, with a strong emphasis on integrating imaging findings into effective clinical decision-making.

She graduated from the University of Liverpool in 2005 and early in her career gained valuable international experience working in Cyprus with Paphiakos and CCP Animal Welfare, where she developed a particular passion for feline medicine. Over the past decade, she has worked in first opinion and emergency veterinary practice in the UK, building extensive clinical experience.

Aga further advanced her expertise through the ISFM Feline Medicine Distance Education Course at the University of Sydney, achieving Membership of the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists (MANZCVS) in Feline Medicine in 2012. In 2014, she completed the Centre of Applied Pet Ethology Diploma (Level 4) and became a Behaviour Advisor and member of the COAPE Association of Pet Behaviourists and Trainers, as well as joining the ISFM Academy of Feline Practitioners.

She is currently a Clinical Associate Professor in Veterinary Education, where she is actively involved in teaching and curriculum development. Aga is passionate about veterinary education and regularly contributes to international teaching initiatives, including volunteer projects with International Cat Care.

Her interests include feline medicine, behaviour, and improving clinical communication and patient care, particularly in emergency and high-stress environments.

Tawny has worked in a wide variety of veterinary settings but has spent the most time working in emergency and referral clinics.

Tawny’s interests include anaesthesia care and monitoring, and evidence-based nursing. She shares her passion for nursing through her Instagram page @the_veterinary_nerd and regularly provides in house and online CPD on a range of veterinary nursing topics.

She qualified from Edinburgh College in 2014, obtaining her RVN status, and completed her practical training at the Hospital for Small Animals, Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies, University of Edinburgh, where she was subsequently employed as a rotating nurse, gaining broad experience across multiple hospital departments.

In 2016, she moved into the Internal Medicine Department, where she worked for two years, before transitioning in 2017 to the Emergency and Critical Care Department, where she has since developed her expertise in managing critically ill patients.

Martyna further advanced her qualifications at Myerscough College (Preston), obtaining a Diploma of Higher Education in Clinical Veterinary Nursing (DipHE CVN) in 2018, followed by an Advanced Diploma in Veterinary Nursing (AdvDipVN) in 2019. Since March 2024, she has held the position of Head Nurse Emergency and Critical Care at the Hospital for Small Animals.

Her professional interests include all aspects of emergency and critical care nursing, with particular focus on patient welfare, stress management in hospitalized animals, and pain management.

She graduated from the Veterinary Technical School in Nowy Targ (Poland) and began her career working in small animal practices in the Silesia region. She later gained valuable clinical experience in both Poland and the United Kingdom, where she worked as a Registered Veterinary Nurse at Vets Now Emergency & Critical Care from 2014.

In 2021, she completed her specialisation in Emergency & Critical Care Veterinary Nursing, earning the Cert VNECC qualification. She further expanded her expertise by becoming a certified RECOVER BLS & ALS Instructor, contributing to the advancement of veterinary resuscitation training.

In Poland, Joanna plays an active role in developing veterinary emergency medicine. She serves as Chair of the Veterinary Technician Section of the Polish Association of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care (PAVECC). As Head of Nursing Staff at VETERIO, the first referral veterinary hospital in Poland, she has been instrumental in establishing high standards of patient care and clinical protocols.

She also runs a consulting and training business, collaborating with major veterinary groups such as LuxVet and Edina Care, and delivering ECC training to veterinary teams across Poland and the United Kingdom.

He holds a Postgraduate Certificate in Small Animal Emergency and Critical Care (PgCertSAECC) and is a certified RECOVER BLS & ALS Instructor, actively contributing to the advancement of resuscitation standards in veterinary medicine.

Rafał gained significant experience in the United Kingdom, where he worked as a Clinical Leader Veterinary Surgeon within the Vets Now Group, managing an Emergency & Critical Care clinic in Stoke-on-Trent, providing him with broad exposure to high-volume emergency caseloads and advanced critical care practice.

He is currently Clinical Director at VETERIO, where he leads the development of emergency and intensive care services, focusing on high clinical standards, team development, and implementation of advanced ECC protocols.

Rafał is a co-founder of the Polish Association of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care (PAVECC) and an active member of international organisations including IVECCS and EVECCS. He regularly participates in international conferences and training programmes, and is actively involved in delivering ECC education and practical training to veterinary teams in both the UK and Poland.

His professional interests include advanced emergency care, critical patient stabilisation, and team-based approaches to ECC medicine, with a strong focus on improving clinical outcomes through education and protocol-driven practice.
